Sarra Terry, a Millvale native and experienced criminal defense attorney, has announced her candidacy for Judge on the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. With a career devoted to justice and a personal connection to the struggles facing many in her community, Terry is committed to fostering a more compassionate and effective court system.
Growing up in Millvale during the height of the heroin epidemic, Terry witnessed the profound toll addiction took on individuals and families. These experiences fueled her drive to pursue law, earning her degree from Duquesne University while working full-time. Since graduating in 2011, she has focused on criminal defense, gaining insight into the systemic issues that contribute to crime, including addiction, trauma, and mental health challenges.
In addition to her work as a defense attorney, Terry served as a judicial law clerk in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, gaining firsthand experience in the inner workings of the judicial system. This role provided her with a deep understanding of courtroom procedures, judicial decision-making, and the impact of the courts on individuals and communities.
“Our justice system needs to do more than punish—it must rehabilitate and provide opportunities,” said Terry. “I’m running to create a trauma-informed court and help individuals and families break cycles of poverty and incarceration.”
Terry’s platform emphasizes customized treatment programs, better mental health services, and career development opportunities for at-risk youth. She believes addressing root causes of criminal behavior can build stronger communities across Allegheny County.
The campaign is calling on supporters to join Team Terry by volunteering, donating, and spreading the word. "This campaign is about all of us – families, workers, and individuals who believe in a justice system that works for everyone," Sarra emphasized.
